AUSTIN DAZE: What did you think of Fantastic Fest this year?
BILL MURRAY: I met Harry Knowles and the people that were at our film and they seem like a great thing. Everyone was charged up about different shows, like the one about a 15 year old girl Zombie movie (Zombie Girl).
AD: What’s next for you? What are you working on now?
BM: I completed a film I did with Jim Jarmusch. I’ve worked with him before and like him very much. The film is called The Limits of Control.
AD: I love Broken Flowers.
BM: Me too. He’s great and just keeps getting better and better. I’m going to one called Down Low or Get Low, I just read the script; it is by Charlie something. I’m not so good on names. I’m better on faces. And then a friend of mine has written one called Kabul that I think I’m going to do in the fall. But before that I’m going to do one written by Jimmy Stefani.
AD: Do you come to Austin a lot?
BM: I hadn’t been in a very long time and I’ve forgotten most of what I had experienced from that time. It’s changed a lot. A long, long time ago we came in the middle of the night and we went to Austin City Limits and it was the only place playing music that night and I was with Dan Aykroyd. We were driving across country and I said let’s go to Austin on the way. I think we may have seen Jerry Jeff Walker—it’s possible. That’s sort of rings my bell. We had a few drinks and then decided to keep going. I haven’t been here in a long time. Everyone has always implied that it’s nice here.
AD: It seems like everyone from California is moving here.
BM: Well, good luck. I hope that works out for you. It’s a lot of people for one and you have to be careful about who you get.
AD: Thank you.
BM: You’re Welcome Russ. Where’s the paper out of?
AD: Austin. We’ve been around for 9 years.
BM: I’ll pick one up. Say, Why is your mascot an octopus?
AD:Among other things it is full of ink!
