[fa:p:a=72157594576639275,id=414371252,j=r,s=s,l=p]AUSTIN DAZE: How did you get started in the business?
STEPHEN BRUTON: Well, when I got started it had nothing to do with business-I was just playing guitar in Fort Worth, Texas. And then, you know, one thing leads to another and the next thing you know you are getting paid a couple of bucks to do this or that and your hobby becomes your profession and your profession becomes your calling and pretty soon you’ve made a livelihood out of it. And now it’s too late to stop. Read the rest of this entry »

WAMMO: Yes, you played right into my hands. We change the answer all the time. We hate the question. It’s absolutely the worst. Read the rest of this entry »

[fa:p:a=72157594576639275,id=414371459,j=r,s=s,l=p]AUSTIN DAZE: So you have been involved with the Chronicle since the get-go. We know the first years of publication are hard. What kept you onboard since the beginning? Do you miss anything about those early years?
MARGARET MOSER: Yeah I really do. Mostly in the sense that we had no idea from issue to issue if it was still going to be around. Read the rest of this entry »

[fa:p:a=72157594576639275,id=414371178,j=r,s=s,l=p]AUSTIN DAZE: Why did you choose to be in Austin?
IAN MCLAGAN: To be honest with you I didn’t choose Austin so much as I was choosing not to be in Los Angeles any longer. My wife and I had been there sixteen years and I was on the road a lot of the time and she was stuck there while I was on the road and she didn’t like it any more than I did, but I was hardly there as much as she was. MATT DENTLER: I was going to film school at UT and was looking for opportunities in Austin to work in film and started volunteering for SXSW. After volunteering for SXSW I became an intern and then the internship became a part-time job, the part-time job became a full-time job, the full-time job became what I do now, which is kind of running the day to day for the film festival. A Pie By Any Other Name: An Eight-Act Play (cont’d)
by: Magnus Opus
Act 5: “Back in the Saddle”
In the beginning of this pizza passion play I’d mentioned secretly yearning to be a food critic all my life, and trust me, I DO love my job here at The Daze. But what has increasingly become more important to me than sampling some get down fare and writing about it is the fact I get to meet some truly unique and special people who have all made tremendous sacrifices and shown courage in the face of adversity to make their dreams real. from the Kitties’ Myspace page:
We rocked versions of “Pinball Wizard” and “Squeeze Box” at “The Who” Hoot Night especially prepared for Russ and Wendy. Thank you guys for having us. We partner up with them again for next month’s First Thursdaze, April 5, 2007!
Kitty Kitty Bang Bang(TM) is a small ranch in the Texas hill country run by a perfumed posse of wayward women. They spend their days out at the ranch bronco bustin’ and pillow fightin’. When they are feeling particularly wild, this bunch of tough hussies head straight to town for a night of sin, gin, and tassel twirlin’.
